RESOURCE-SHARING THAT MEET THE NEEDS
OF BOTH EMPLOYEES AND BUSINESSES
To optimize office usage and transition to a sustainable hybrid work model, it's crucial to involve everyone - facility managers, HR, and employees. Create a comfortable and attractive workplace while promoting sustainability, freeing up office space, and reducing energy consumption. Start by mapping out how employees currently use the office to identify areas for improvement.

Discover how our customers have achieved improved space utilization and created a better workplace for their employees with FLX.
In order to carry out essential upgrades, AkerBP had to create space on a particular floor. This meant that around 150 employees who previously occupied this area had to be relocated to new premises.
The idea Shell had, was to incorporate as many different functions as possible within a given area, avoiding the creation of dead zones or wasted space.
Shell wanted to use the available space
in the smartest possible way
To incorporate as many different functions as possible within a given area is not easy. FLX helped Shell do this successfully by avoiding the creation of dead zones or wasted space.
Aker BP needed to accommodate an additional 150 employees
AkerBP had to free up areas on one floor to make necessary upgrades. This meant that approximately 150 employees who used this area had to be moved to new premises. Employees tend to have reservations about sharing workplaces, often because they are worried if there will be enough capacity for everyone to have a place when they need it. As there were no obvious vacant premises in the existing building, AkerBP needed advice on how to solve this issue.
Analyzing the office space
Three options were proposed:
- Employees could either be relocated and spread across nearby buildings
- They could consolidate existing premises with an extra 150 spots
- Office policy could be changed from assigned seating to free seating in order to maximize available capacity already present
The results
At that time, AkerBP and FLX already collaborated on a pilot project developing the new platform. That's why it was very natural to use FLX to map out available capacity. This gave them the possibility to prevent the over allocated premises from becoming overcrowded.
FLX's two-day onboarding program proved to be an excellent success. Both employees and department management were highly satisfied. Fears of not finding a place on the team were allayed when those involved saw that utilization rarely exceeded 60%.
